Supervillain Mastermind has been off the radar for almost a year. Suddenly, a video is released, with Mastermind stating that he's set a bomb that will go off unless he can be found to prevent it. Liz Lassiter, intrepid reporter who has been covering Mastermind, tries to convince her boyfriend, JD, that they must get out of town before the bomb can explode. JD, however, has an announcement of his own.

Brad will be participating in a reading of a new play by Dean Farell Bruggeman, Lagniappe. The reading will take place at Eclectic Company Theatre on Sunday, October 16 · 7:00pm - 9:30pm. The theatre is located at 5312 Laurel Canyon Blvd. North Hollywood, CA 91607. Admission is free, but donations will be graciously accepted. There will be a wine and cheese reception.

The Mackenzie Report

Brad has been cast in three episodes of a new web series called Dreamtime Stories. The first episode is titled The Mackenzie Report, written by Justin T. Bowler and is to be directed by the author. Brad will be playing Dr. Mackenzie and will shoot for two days this coming weekend, 8/27 and 28.

Brad has also had a piece he wrote selected to be a part of Dreamtime Stories. It is titled The Getaway and is slated for production early next year. He will also be directing, but not acting in this episode.

Dreamtime Stories is being produced by Eclectic Company Theatre Productions.

One Day Play

Brad just finished a one day fundraiser, this past weekend, called the One Day Play at the Eclectic Co. Theatre in Valley Village. The fundraiser was to raise money for upcoming productions, Preposterous and Askance. The One Day Play is a form of theatre that was invented at the Eclectic Co. Theatre. It is similar to the common form of 24 hour theatre, in which short one act pieces are written, directed and performed all within 24 hours. The big difference with the One Day Play is that it is one entire play written, directed and performed within 24 hours. It is what seems an impossible task, but somehow the Eclectic and their hugely talented members make it happen.

For this production, Brad was not acting, but participated as one of the writers. As noted on his Twitter feed, Brad says "What a crazy, stressful, exhausting and hugely fun experience!" The writers had gathered the night before and concocted a theme for the piece by playing a version of Exquisite Corpse, an improvisational word game. Then they each drew scene numbers for scenes which they had to outline in the presence of the other writers, utilizing a randomly drawn line of dialogue and prop. After that, the numbers went back in the hat (or plastic sandwich bag, as I'm told) and the writers redrew numbers and then had to go home, write their three scenes and have them back at the theatre by 7am the next day.

At which point, the director and actors took over to rehearse the scripts for two shows at 8 and 10pm that very evening. The final result was an unpredictable laugh riot that actually had a plot and a few subplots, that strangely all tied together. The show was titled If the Shoe Fits and it involved a supervillain, a couple of rhyming pirates, a sneaker factory worker, a singing wizard and more. It was very fun night and a real testament to what people can accomplish when they put their minds to it.

Brad will be performing in a monologue show for two nights only in June, on the 10th and 11th.

He has also written one of the two pieces he will be performing, titled A Window to Heaven.

Performances will be at the Eclectic Company Theatre at 5312 Laurel Canyon Blvd in Valley Village, CA 91601. Showtime is 11pm both nights. Tickets are pay-what-you-can.

An Ideal Husband at Knightsbridge Theatre

Brad is currently starring in An Ideal Husband at the Knightsbridge Theatre in Los Angeles. He is playing the lead role of Sir Robert Chiltern in the classic comedy by Oscar Wilde, produced by Joseph P. Stachura and directed by Marti Hale. Performances are Friday and Saturday nights at 8pm and Sundays at 6pm. It will be a four week run from May 6th to May 29th, 2011. Swordplay for Shakespeare

Brad has been cast in a DVD video series called Swordplay for Shakespeare, which will allow theater companies to simply buy a DVD when they need a fight for their Shakespeare production, instead of hiring a fight choreographer. The series is being produced by Tim Weske and Swordplay Studios, the most respected and talented fight choreographer in the business. The theater companies will be able to save money and know they have a quality, dynamic fight to insert into their production.

Brad will be performing three roles for the series, Cornwall in King Lear, Banquo in MacBeth, and Benvolio in Romeo and Juliet.

Filming is already in progress. Brad will begin shooting on Sept 29th.

BEST ACTOR in Hurricane Season 2010

Brad was voted Best Actor by the audience in block B of Hurricane Season 2010 at the Eclectic Company Theatre in North Hollywood. Hurricane Season is an annual one-act play-writing festival, in which playwrights compete for cash prizes. The winners of said prizes are decided by a panel of judges before the festival begins and the three finalists are separated into different weekend blocks with other non-finalist plays. The overall winner is kept under wraps until after the final performance. In addition, there are audience awards for each of the three blocks of plays. No cash prizes there, but an esteemed honor, nonetheless. Brad starred in The Opening by Bilal Dardai, which actually swept all of the audience awards for its block, including Brad C. Wilcox for Best Actor, Taylor Ashbrook for Best Actress, Cassandra Vincent for Best Director, Bilal Dardai for Best Playwright and a Best Production nod as well. Dardai also won the overall Best Playwright honor and nabbed the top cash prize.

This is the second year in a row that Brad has taken the Best Actor award, last year, he won the honor for his performance in Mastermind.

Duel of Destiny

Brad has been cast in the short film, Duel of Destiny, a very funny farcical story about a duel over who gets to marry the Princess Destiny, or rather, who doesn't have to. Brad won't get to show off his fencing skills in this film, but will be portraying the official, a pompous, uptight know-it-all and kiss-ass to the king.

Filming starts 8/14.

Mastermind official selection at Comic-con 2010

May Update

Okay, so a couple of cool things happened recently.

One, the premiere of Delilah & Samson happened at the Sunset Laemmle 5 in Hollywood on April 27th. It was an evening of great short films, capped with Delilah & Samson in the place of honor at the end. It was very well received, with attendees left amazed that Brad was the same person they had just seen on the big screen. As one audience member put it, "such a striking difference between the predator on the screen and the sincere polite actor in the flesh."

Afterward, there was a feast at Sushi Dan's next door, graciously provided by the producers.

Two, Brad was just cast in the Eclectic Company Theatre's production of Hurricane Season, their annual one-act festival. Last year, Brad appeared in the one-act, Mastermind, which led to him being in the film of the same name. This year, he will play a very different character in The Opening, which is about a DoD employee who summons an ancient god of war, and also one of three selected finalists in the playwright competition this year.

Wrapped on Delilah and Samson

The shoot for Delilah and Samson was a great time and had me going to some dark emotional places. It's always fun to play these unsavory characters, but disturbing too. We wrapped yesterday at around noon, after a 5:30am call. Part of this final day was another intense segment where Samson (me) chases Delilah (Julia Morizawa) to her car, after she pulls a gun on him (his gun). Not gonna say whether she gets away or not!

It was a real pleasure working with the director, Miriam Hughes, and producers, Sarah Giove and Jamison MacKillop, as well as the whole crew, which was a very talented and passionate group. I'm looking forward to seeing the film, which will be screening in a few weeks!

Music for Mastermind

Brad is currently working on music for the soundtrack of Mastermind, the short film he starred in this year. He is composing the Mastermind theme song and a track called "Trick of the Light", which will play during the credits.

The Jamb Comes to an End

It was strange to not be doing The Jamb this past weekend. It had become a welcome routine for the six weeks it ran. It was one of those great shows that settle into your bones and make you feel like you could go on doing it forever. As always, it was a pleasure working with my friends at the Eclectic Company Theatre. They are such a great group of talented people.

I am sad to see this one end, but also looking forward to the new possibilities on the horizon.

Opening night

Well, the opening night of The Jamb was a success! The writer, J. Stephen Brantley, was in attendance and he seemed very pleased with it. A nearly full house and very responsive and appreciate audience. A good start to a six week run.

The Jamb: World Premiere

Brad has started rehearsals for the world premiere of a new play by J. Stephen Brantley, entitled The Jamb, which opens at the Eclectic Company Theatre in N. Hollywood on January 15, 2010. Directed by Susan Lee and also featuring Kerr Seth Lordygan, Garrett Liggett and Kenlyn Kanouse.

Tuffer and Roderick are turning forty. Neither wants to face it.

While Tuffer continues to smoke, snort, and screw his way through Manhattan's much younger gay male population, Roderick's gone as straight as possible for activism and martial arts. With the arrival of Tuffer's latest boy toy Brandon, Roderick can take no more. He insists that Tuffer accompany him to sober up at his mothers house in rural New Mexico.

When Roderick's mother Abigail, a formerly successful folk singer, throws the guys a very organic birthday party, twenty years of tension comes to a head. The foursome find themselves in a spiritual exile on the high desert, each on the verge of something, almost somewhere, in the jamb.

We finished principal photography on Mastermind, Sun. night, Nov 22nd, after a long weekend of very fun, but very challenging work. We may have some pickups and promo shots, but we are officially wrapped. What a great story to work on. I am excited to see the footage, when we have a rough cut available.
